The new fish market of the Port of Vigo consists of an infrastructure with an area and quay walls with a total area of 35,000 sqm, 3 docking alignments of 454 m each and a depth of 8 m.
It consists of a set of buildings that can be basically divided into two: building for exhibition and sale, with an area of 6,032 sqm, and 10 buildings for premises of fish exporters, whose typology is dual comb, that is, two main streets longitudinally ("dirty" streets attached to the auction hall) and a series of perpendicular streets ("clean" streets attached to the loading docks), forming a total of 74 departments with a total area of 13,600 sqm.
Moreover, the new fish market has 414 parking spaces located below deck on the second floor of buildings and a salt water tank with a capacity of 1,200 cubic meter.
The facilities needed for the coastal fish & big-sized fish market in the port of Vigo are housed in a building attached to the deep-sea fish market by two bridges, one located on the first floor, designed to link the offices of both buildings, and second aimed at linking the parking areas.
The usable area of the building is 16,164 sqm, 1,249 sqm of which correspond to the loading dock, 372 sqm to the cutting room, 234 sqm to the preload room and 2,338 sqm to parking.
The cutting room is designed to work quickly and effectively both with fish hanging and on worktop. The flow of processed materials and wastes is carried out by fully automated systems
The building's design prevents contamination during processing of fish, optimizes the space totally, and the different facilities have been projected so that the ensemble acts “intelligently”..
It is attached to the coastal fish & big-sized fish market, it's intended to auction of inshore fishing, coming from the Galician-Portuguese coast, to monoespecies and large volumes are auctioned coastal fish species such as atlantic mackerel, sardines and horse mackerel. This is done by stop-out price and with sample.
Facility with an area 583 sqm, which hosts auctions of fresh shellfish from the extraction, and later also packaged and properly identified.
The fish market is computerized for the auction of the different species.
Currently it is managed by Portos de Galicia, by virtue of Administrative Authorization.
Service provided to users with which the may buy fish or seafood, by on-line auction on fishing markets digital platforms, from a location at the Port of Vigo.
